Frequently asked Questions
What is Ceroc?
The "Ceroc" style of dance is a Modern Jive - a great blend of latin, traditional jive, salsa. It's a dance style which is constantly evolving. Well over 1000 people attend Ceroc classes each week in Sydney. Why? It's easy. It looks good very quickly. You're dancing to modern music and most of complex footwork associated with other dance forms has been eliminated. Learn more...
Where did Ceroc come from?
Ceroc, an abbreviation for the French phrase c'est Rock, started out with a group of friends in London and has developed into a worldwide phenomenon of partner dancing. Learn about Ceroc's history.
Where can I Ceroc?
Pretty much all over Sydney as well as the Central Coast. Visit our Venues Page.
What is a class like?
Ceroc classes are very relaxed and for the same entry fee you've got the choice of either (or both!) beginner and intermediate classes at every venue and three hours of dancing. Find out more.
What should I wear?
Dress at class is usually casual and comfortable, whilst observing RSL and Club regulations. For guys and girls - light weight Jeans or trousers, t-shirts or polo or collared shirts. On the feet, shoes that have a hard sole so you can spin (trainers grip too much). At the social outings and events, people tend to dress up more (from smart-casual to formal - depending on the event!) for a fun night out!
Are there social events?
You bet!! Cerocers are very sociable and any excuse will do. There's always something going on. Check out our list of social events.
Have you got any hints or tips?
Of course we have ...you'll also receive hint cards at class.See out hints & tips section!
What music do you play?
One of the great benefits of Ceroc is that wherever you go and whatever music is played you can normally dance Ceroc to it. At class you'll be dancing to modern club sounds as well as latin and some of the great classics.
What does it cost?
Class costs are very reasonable with an option to pay for a single evening ($15) or multiple classes at a discount. There is also a special 1-off Beginner Package. See Info & Prices.
Who will be teaching?
You will regularly see different teachers at your classes who will bring you their own favourite moves and different style tips. Check out our staff on the menu above and who's teaching this week.
Do you have children's classes?
We do have an extensive teaching program at a range of Sydney High Schools as part of their dance curriculum and our classes are modified specifically for them. Should you be interested in having Ceroc Australia at your school, there is more info on our Schools Page. Our regular dance classes are primarily designed for adult tuition. Generally we do not have students under 18 years of age. Please also keep in mind, our dancers come to Ceroc classes to dance with adults, not children. However, should students under the age of 18 come to our classes, they must be accompanied by an adult at all times. As we teach at a lot of Clubs and RSL's, we need to observe the law with regard to underage alcohol and gambling legislation.
May I bring a child to class?
We do not have creche facilities at classes, and our insurance does not cover us for child minding. Most of our classes are taught in Clubs and RSL's. As you would be aware, having children in these facilities unattended where there are bar areas and poker machine facilities is not permitted. So we therefore recommend you have your small children cared for elsewhere so you can relax and enjoy the class without distraction.
