In the Team and Showcase categories the judges will give more leeway to breakaway dancing, particularly in the opening sequence; e.g.: The dancers might start at opposite ends of the stage, or off-stage, and take more than 4 bars of music (approx 10-15 seconds) to reach each other. You will NOT be disqualified for breaking handhold for more extended periods. However, do remember that this is still a modern jive partner dancing competition and you will be judged accordingly.

It is recommended that partners must not break contact or release handhold (ie, breakaway dancing) at any one time for more than 4 bars of music (approx 10-15 seconds). Couples are allowed to break contact several times providing they stay within the above time constraint.
